Davanagere District In-charge Minister S.S. Mallikarjun has appealed to his admirers, party workers, friends and well-wishers to avoid grand celebrations on the occasion of his birthday on September 22, citing the drought conditions prevailing across the state and district.
Mallikarjun said inadequate rainfall has caused difficulties for farmers and the general public. With many farmers facing hardship due to the lack of rain, he said it would not be appropriate to celebrate his birthday with fanfare at a time when people are dealing with difficult circumstances.
The minister requested his supporters and well-wishers not to organise cake-cutting programmes, put up banners or hold lavish events to mark the occasion. He also appealed to them to avoid other activities that would involve unnecessary expenditure or large-scale celebrations.
Mallikarjun said the affection, support and good wishes he receives from his admirers, party workers, friends and well-wishers are valuable to him. He urged them to express their support by showing concern for farmers and people affected by the prevailing drought situation.
He said the current circumstances call for simplicity and social responsibility rather than celebrations. The minister appealed to people to stand with farmers who are facing difficulties because of inadequate rainfall and support those affected by the drought.
The appeal comes amid concerns over rainfall shortages and their impact on agricultural activities in several parts of Karnataka. Farmers depend heavily on timely rainfall for cultivation, and inadequate rains can affect crops, livestock and rural incomes.
Mallikarjun urged his supporters to respect his request and keep his birthday celebrations simple. He said their goodwill and blessings would be more meaningful if they were accompanied by concern for people facing difficulties.
