The railway network, which gives a boost to tourism in Dakshina Kannada district, also needs to be expanded. Devotees from other towns have been relying on buses to come to Dharmasthala. In this context, it is the wish of tourists and citizens that the railway network should be expanded to Dharmasthala as well.
Due to traffic congestion, day-to-day travel is becoming difficult. Therefore, the central and state governments need to think about expanding train services from Mangalore to other parts of the district.
Devotees rely on buses to reach Dharmasthala. Currently, there is a railway line from Subrahmanya Road to Mangalore. Trains from/to Bangalore operate on Although the number of devotees coming to Dharmasthala is high in the district, no one prefers trains due to inconvenience. To reach Dharmasthala from the nearest railway station, one has to travel an additional 55-60 km by road. Only those who have experienced the hardships of people know that if there is a train journey early in the morning, they have to get up early and reach Mangalore in their own vehicle or a rented vehicle. If that facility is not available, they have to find the houses of relatives and friends in Mangalore and reach in the evening. Otherwise, train travel is a mirage.
There are thousands of employees in Bangalore and other distant towns from Belthangady taluk. Government employees travel to Bangalore for departmental work. It takes 8-10 hours to travel to Bangalore, which is 300 km from Dharmasthala.
Recently, the Union Railway Ministry has separated the Mangalore Railway Zone from the Palakkad Division of Kerala of the Southern Railway and added it to the Mysore Division of the South Western Railway. It is estimated that this will bring huge benefits to the coastal and other parts of Karnataka. The revenue of the Mysore Division will increase. However, people living around Ujire, Dharmasthala, and Belthangady are facing difficulties due to train traffic.
