Deputy Director of the Department of Pre-University Education KA Uppar urged all eligible young people who have attained the age of 18 to enrol themselves in the electoral roll and exercise their right to vote.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls-2026 and Young Voters’ Registration Drive organised by the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at the Government Girls’ Pre-University College.
Uppar said the participation of young people was vital for strengthening democracy. Voting is an important responsibility in a democratic system, and students should be made aware of the electoral process and the importance of voting at the college level itself.
Referring to the Election Commission’s “No Voter Left Behind” initiative, he said every eligible citizen should ensure that their name is included in the electoral roll.
District Election Nodal Officer MB Rajput explained the objective and significance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He explained the procedure for enrolling through Form 6 for those who had completed 18 years of age or would attain 18 by the prescribed qualifying date. He also briefed the students on using the Citizen Services Portal and the ECI Net App for voter-related services.
As part of the programme, around 30 eligible students of the college filled Form 6 and completed the voter registration process at the venue.
Senior lecturers C.T. Yalagi, BS Gowri, SC Tholanur and RC Hiremath, along with teaching and non-teaching staff and students, were present.
