Demanding a permanent solution to issues regarding examinations and results at Kuvempu University, thousands of students, led by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), held a protest march on Wednesday.
Following the march, they staged a sit-in protest at the Zilla Panchayat premises and submitted a memorandum to Hemanth, Zilla Panchayat CEO and Registrar of Kuvempu University.
The students alleged that they face numerous problems related to exams and results every semester, and that these issues are severely impacting their academic progress and future educational pursuits.
They expressed strong resentment over several issues, specifically: students being marked absent in results despite having appeared for exams; delays in result announcements; discrepancies in marks; errors in digital evaluation; technical glitches in the UUCMS portal; delays in re-evaluation and re-totaling results; delays in receiving marks cards; and problems related to examination fees.
The memorandum urged the authorities to fulfill several demands immediately, including: announcing results on schedule; rectifying errors where students who appeared for exams are marked absent; providing clear information regarding examination fees; and releasing re-evaluation and re-totaling results without delay. The district NSUI has warned that if the issues are neglected without providing appropriate solutions, they will call for a shutdown of Kuvempu University and intensify the agitation alongside the students.
The protest was led by District NSUI President SN Vijay Kumar, with the participation of hundreds of students, including Ravi Katikere, Aditya, Chandru G Rao, Suban, Farad, Rangenahalli Ravi, Halesh, Akash, Srikanth, and members of Indira Sena.
Upon receiving the memorandum from the protesting students, Deputy Registrar (Evaluation) Girish and Registrar (Evaluation) Thimmarayappa addressed the gathering, stating, we have already discussed these issues several times. I assure you that we will respond to all your demands. I will make a concerted effort to resolve the issues, particularly by October 31. Your demands are legitimate, if the problem is not resolved, I will join you in the protest.
