Students of the Political Science Department at Government First Grade Women’s College, Chikkaballapura, visited Peresandra Gram Panchayat on an educational trip.
The visit aimed to help students understand how Panchayat administration and local government bodies work in practice.
Panchayat Development Officer Vijayendra Kumar explained the Panchayat’s structure, powers and responsibilities through direct interaction. Students also learned about Gram Sabha meetings, development activities, public facilities and the implementation of various government welfare schemes.
Resource person Dr. Shankarappa said Gram Panchayats play an important role in strengthening democracy through decentralization. He stressed that both local bodies and public participation are necessary for the development of rural areas. Advocate Boyanahalli Venkatasiva urged students to go beyond textbook learning and understand how the Constitution and laws are applied in real situations. He also highlighted the importance of legal awareness.
Lecturer Shettivarahalli Rajendra said education should develop social responsibility and civic awareness along with academic knowledge. He added that such visits improve students’ confidence and practical understanding. Head of the Political Science Department Dr. Padmakumari said the visit was organized to give students direct knowledge of local institutions.
College Principal Prof. Chandraiah said educational visits help connect classroom lessons with real administrative systems. He encouraged students to use such opportunities to understand society and governance better. Lecturer Raghavendra, Panchayat staff and students attended the programme, which gave the students valuable practical exposure.
