Rural workers should get continuous employment in their own villages to prevent migration during drought and livelihood crises, said Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rishi Anand.
He was speaking after inspecting development works being undertaken under the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM-G) in villages under Basanal and Ingalagi gram panchayats in Indi taluk.
Rishi Anand inspected canal rejuvenation work at Kotnal, construction of a percolation pond in the Babalad forest area, lake rejuvenation work at Ballolli and trench construction at Mavinahalli.
He appreciated the water conservation, lake and canal rejuvenation and desilting works, saying they would strengthen rural infrastructure while generating employment for local workers.
He directed Village Karya Mitras, barefoot technicians, Karya Bandhus, Krishi Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, self-help group members and women’s organisations to create awareness about the scheme and encourage rural families to participate.
Gram panchayats should record workers’ attendance daily through the NMMS app and take planned measures to provide employment to at least 200 to 300 workers in each gram panchayat, he said.
The CEO urged self-help group members and rural women to make full use of the programme. He assured workers that every eligible family demanding work through Form-6 would be provided continuous employment and wages would be credited directly to their bank accounts within the stipulated period.
“Every eligible family that submits a demand for work through Form-6 should be provided employment. Details of workers facing job-card-related issues should be collected and submitted to the Zilla Panchayat,” Anand said.
He also directed officials to organise free health check-up camps at worksites across all gram panchayats during September for workers engaged under the scheme.
Indi Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Mahadevappa Evoor, Assistant Director (Rural Development) Sanjay Khadeghekar and officials from Basanal, Ingalagi, Babalad and Zhalaki gram panchayats were present.
Representatives of Canara Bank, the Lead District Manager’s office, financial literacy services and other departments also participated in the inspection.
