Deputy Commissioner Dr. Suresh B. Itnal visited Hirekere lake near Kookanapalli Road in Kallatavaragera village on Thursday to review plans for its comprehensive development under the Vikashita Bharat Jiramji Yojana, with support from the Deshpande Foundation.
The lake covers about 94 acres and comes under the Minor Irrigation Department. During the visit, Deshpande Foundation officer Nanjundappa explained plans for strengthening the bund, removing silt, plantation and other improvement works around the water body. Villagers also shared their views on how lake development could benefit the local community.
Dr. Itnal said active participation from villagers would be essential for successfully completing the project. He said a new bund would be constructed, arrangements would be made to improve water storage and dredging work would be undertaken. He urged residents to cooperate with officials during the work and help ensure its smooth completion.
The Deputy Commissioner said proper development of Hirekere could make it a model lake in Koppal district. He directed the concerned Panchayat Development Officer and Technical Assistant to make the necessary preparations for starting dredging work under the VB-G RAM G scheme. He also said the lake development programme would be launched soon by Sri Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swami.
Officials present included Zilla Panchayat Planning Director S.M. Kamble, Minor Irrigation Assistant Executive Engineer Jagannath, Taluk Panchayat Assistant Director Soumya K., Panchayat Development Officer Hanamanthappa Nayak and district and taluk IEC coordinators. Technical staff, Deshpande Foundation representatives and villagers also attended.
The visit marked an important step towards restoring Hirekere and improving its water storage capacity. Officials said coordinated efforts between government departments, the supporting organisation and villagers would be necessary to complete the project effectively and provide lasting benefits to the surrounding community.
Public service meeting to address Yelaburga grievances
A Public Service Movement meeting will be held on September 5 at Buddha Basava Ambedkar Bhavan in Chikkavankalakuta village, Yelaburga taluk, from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The meeting aims to resolve public grievances quickly and provide information about government schemes. District-level officials have been directed to attend with details of schemes and services available in Yelaburga taluk. Important departments must also establish exhibition stalls at the venue. District Collector Dr. Suresh B. Itnal said attendance is compulsory and officials must bring complete information. Disciplinary action will be taken against officials who remain absent or provide incomplete information during the meeting.
