The Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, has issued show-cause notices to its Vice-President Shivashankar and Joint Secretary Prasanna Kempegowda over alleged irregularities in handling fines collected by magistrate courts.
The association said its executive committee decided to issue the notices after concerns emerged over the collection and use of court-imposed fines. The alleged irregularities involved unauthorised receipts used for collecting fines, with the amounts reportedly running into lakhs of rupees.
According to the association, the receipts were allegedly used by Shivashankar and Prasanna Kempegowda through an association employee, Chandrashekar. The association has questioned the manner in which the money was collected and handled.
General Secretary H.V. Praveen Gowda issued the notices, seeking explanations from both office-bearers regarding the alleged misuse and irregularities. The association said the matter came to light during proceedings before its executive committee.
The notices now require the two office-bearers to respond to the allegations. Further action is expected after their explanations are considered by the association’s executive committee.
