Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake a visit to Canada and the United States from August 25 to September 2, with the government seeking to strengthen economic and financial partnerships, deepen investment linkages and advance cooperation on shared global priorities.
In Toronto, Sitharaman will participate in the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue with Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, Francois-Philippe Champagne. The discussions will cover macroeconomic developments, financial sector cooperation, bilateral investment opportunities and international priorities, while strengthening the economic and financial pillar of the renewed India-Canada partnership.
She will also join an Investment Roundtable with senior representatives from the energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals sectors. The interaction will focus on business-to-business linkages, investment opportunities and long-term commercial partnerships, including opportunities in GIFT City-IFSC.
Sitharaman is scheduled to hold one-to-one meetings with Canadian business leaders to discuss India’s growth prospects and opportunities for expanding Canadian companies’ presence in India.
In the US, she will visit Chicago, Asheville and New York. Chicago engagements include a roundtable with investors and private-sector leaders, along with a visit to the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago.
In Asheville, she will lead India’s delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting under the US G20 presidency.
Her New York programme includes an investor roundtable with leading companies and a NASDAQ bell-ringing ceremony. The Finance Ministry said the visit will also provide insights into technology-driven financial markets and the evolving relationship between technology and capital markets.:
