Bengaluru East Municipal Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh has issued a final warning to owners of vacant plots to clear waste and debris by August 27, saying the civic body will otherwise carry out the work and recover the expenses from property owners.
The warning follows the Freedom from Waste campaign in the corporation area. Owners were earlier asked to clean their properties voluntarily by August 22, but officials found waste still lying on many vacant sites. The corporation will begin large-scale clearance from August 27.
A special team of civic officials has been formed under the supervision of zonal joint commissioners and chief engineers. The team will identify vacant plots, issue notices, oversee cleaning and arrange transportation of removed waste.
The corporation has also announced estimated charges based on plot size. For a 20×30-foot site, cleaning may cost Rs. 6,700 without a barrier and Rs. 7,700 with one, while waste transportation costs Rs. 19,200. For larger plots, the charges will rise according to their area and will be recovered from owners along with property tax.
Commissioner Ramesh urged property owners to use the final deadline and clean their plots themselves to avoid additional expenses. He said the campaign aims to improve cleanliness and sanitation across Bengaluru East. Officials, including Joint Commissioner Dr. Dakshayini K, Chief Engineers M. Lokesh and Krishnamurthy, and solid waste management officers, attended the meeting. The civic body said strict action will follow against owners who fail to comply with the August 27 deadline.
