Koppal
Students and local organizations staged a spirited protest under rainy skies to demand proper infrastructure, basic amenities, and permanent facilities for the Maulana Azad Model English Medium School located on Sardar Galli in Koppal.
The demonstrators waited hours for local representatives before submitting a formal petition to MLA K. Raghavendra B. Hitnal. Protesters highlighted that despite the institution being established years ago to support underprivileged children from minority and backward communities, students are still cramped into small, temporary rooms without a dedicated school building. Key grievances include a lack of playgrounds, clean drinking water, science laboratories, proper sanitation units, and permanent teaching staff, forcing reliance on temporary guest teachers.
The delegation urged the state administration to immediately sanction land, construct a well-equipped campus, and supply free uniforms and learning materials at the start of every academic year. Community leaders, parents, and various trade union representatives joined the march to emphasize that educational neglect directly harms the future of local youth.
In response to the demonstration, the local MLA promised to convene a special coordination meeting with concerned departmental officers to review the pending demands and work out a viable administrative solution. Meanwhile, parents and civil society members warned that agitations will continue if concrete steps are not taken swiftly to improve infrastructure and secure a permanent, safe learning environment for all enrolled children.
Demands submitted to the administration:
- Immediate allocation of land and construction of a fully equipped school building.
- Upgradation of classes from LKG up to PUC and technical courses.
- Regular appointments for permanent headmasters and subject teachers to eliminate reliance on guest faculty.
- Creation of administrative posts, including a Data Entry Operator and support staff.
- Essential infrastructure such as a playground, separate restrooms, a clean drinking water unit, a science laboratory, and a library.
