Woman alleges needle left inside tooth during treatment

Yadgir

A woman from Shahapur has lodged a complaint against a dentist, alleging that a needle was left inside her tooth during treatment. District Health and Family Welfare Officer (DHO) Dr. Mahesh Biradar said further action would be taken based on the report of a medical board.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Dr. Biradar said Chandrakala Bagli, a resident of Sri Mata Manikeshwari Nagar, had complained against Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman of Style Zone Dental Clinic in Shahapur. According to her complaint, she approached the dentist on May 5 for tooth pain and alleged that a needle was left inside her tooth during treatment. When the pain persisted, she reportedly returned to the clinic on August 11 and was allegedly told that the tooth might have to be removed because a needle was present inside it.

Following the complaint, health officials summoned the dentist and questioned him. In his written statement, the doctor said the patient had undergone root canal treatment and there had been no negligence during the procedure. He also reportedly stated that the object seen in the X-ray was not a needle but an appearance caused by the technique used during root canal treatment.

Dr. Biradar said an expert opinion was necessary to establish the facts. The case will therefore be referred to the medical board of Yadgir Medical College, where specialists, including dental experts, will examine the matter and submit a report. Necessary action will be taken under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Act based on the findings.

The DHO clarified that Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman is not an unqualified or fake doctor. He holds a BDS qualification and is registered under the KPME Act. Whether there was negligence during treatment will become clear only after the medical board submits its report.

Meanwhile, Chandrakala Ningappa Bagni staged a brief protest outside the DHO’s office on Friday along with family members, demanding legal action against the dentist and justice. She alleged that her pain had increased and that she was finding it difficult to eat. She claimed another doctor, Dr. Belli, detected the alleged object during an X-ray and urged authorities to take appropriate action.
