Despite the stipulated deadline having expired months ago, a major road work in Kudiganur village of Afzalpur taluk, remains incomplete, leaving residents to endure severe hardship on a daily basis.
The road, which is an important route for villagers, has reportedly been left halfway through the work. Stones scattered across the road, open potholes and clouds of dust have made commuting difficult and risky for both motorists and pedestrians. During rains, the situation reportedly worsens as the road turns muddy, increasing the risk of accidents. Schoolchildren, pedestrians, motorists and roadside businesses are among those facing difficulties because of the unfinished work.
Residents are now questioning why the authorities have failed to ensure completion of the project within the prescribed timeframe. The delay has also raised concerns over the monitoring of road works by the concerned department. Locals have questioned whether the contractor is being allowed to continue without adequate accountability from the officials concerned.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that poor road conditions in Afzalpur taluk have drawn attention.A previous special report published by our newspaper had highlighted the poor condition of a road in Chincholi village and the difficulties faced by residents. Following the report, the concerned officials visited the spot and the road work was reportedly taken up.However, residents now point out that another road being executed by the same contractor has remained incomplete, raising fresh questions about the monitoring and supervision of road projects.
The prolonged delay has triggered questions among residents over whether the problem lies with the contractor, inadequate supervision by officials, or both. Residents argue that government-funded road projects are ultimately financed by taxpayers and that authorities have a responsibility to ensure that public money is used effectively and that works are completed within the stipulated period.
