Mysuru
For the first time, Mysuru hosted a meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, focusing on the city’s growing aviation needs and its future development potential.
The meeting was chaired by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, while Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol served as co-chairperson. All members of the Consultative Committee participated in the meeting.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar submitted a detailed memorandum to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, urging the Centre to further strengthen air connectivity from Mysuru. He sought direct flights from Mysuru to major domestic destinations including Mumbai, Kochi, Tirupati and Goa. Mysuru is one of Karnataka’s major tourism and cultural destinations and that better air connectivity would create greater opportunities for the growth of tourism, business, education, healthcare and investment, he added.
Speedy expansion of Mysuru airport
Yaduveer also urged the Union Minister to expedite the ongoing expansion and development works at Mysuru Airport. Completing the expansion works at the earliest was essential to handle the growing number of passengers and facilitate the operation of more flight routes as well as larger aircraft. He had been continuously following up on the development of Mysuru Airport and that providing infrastructure and air connectivity suited to the city’s future requirements remained one of his key commitments.
“I have been continuously following up on the development works at Mysuru Airport. My commitment is not limited to meeting temporary requirements. I am working towards a long-term and permanent solution that will provide Mysuru with strong air connectivity to different parts of the country,” he said.
He stressed that Mysuru needed a long-term aviation strategy rather than temporary or short-term solutions. This Airport should be developed as a strong regional aviation hub capable of connecting the city with major cities across the country.
“Mysuru will get better air connectivity”
Speaking at the meeting, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu gave a positive assurance that efforts would be made to improve air connectivity to Mysuru.
“Mysuru needs better air connectivity. I am confident that Mysuru will soon get its due share. MP Yaduveer ji has been continuously following up with me for all possible support. I will direct my office to immediately take up all the pending works,” he said.
The assurance is expected to provide further momentum to efforts to strengthen Mysuru Airport and expand flight connectivity.
Yaduveer said direct connectivity to cities such as Mumbai, Kochi, Tirupati and Goa would benefit both tourists and residents of Mysuru while creating new opportunities for the local hotel, tourism, business and service sectors. Better connectivity with major aviation hubs would make it easier for Mysuru passengers to travel to various parts of the country as well as international destinations.
