CH NEWS, Chikkaballapura

The district administration is taking steps to establish 203 Bharat Jodo Youth Associations to promote sports, culture, scientific thinking and social harmony among young people. Deputy Commissioner G. Prabhu appealed to youth to join the membership drive in large numbers.

The district has 154 Gram Panchayats, with one association planned for each. Another 49 associations will be formed in urban areas according to population. The plan includes nine associations in Chikkaballapura, seven in Gauribidanur, 10 in Chintamani, nine in Shidlaghatta, five in Bagepalli, two in Gudibande, three in Alipur and four in Kaiwara. Each association must have at least 100 members, creating a district target of 20,300 members.

As of August 18, 1,054 young people had registered, including 986 from rural areas and 68 from urban areas. Those aged 16 to 35 can join by completing Aadhaar-based registration and paying a Rs. 10 fee. Applications can be submitted through the BJYS portal, mobile application, Gram One, Karnataka One or Civil Service Centres. Applicants must normally reside in the concerned village or ward and can join only one association.

Each association will have a 15-member executive committee with representation for women and different social groups. Every association will receive an annual grant of Rs. 10 lakh for activities including sports, cultural events, cleanliness drives, environmental protection, health, yoga, blood donation, digital literacy and career guidance.

Associations must hold monthly meetings, prepare annual activity calendars and upload programme reports with geo-tagged photographs. The administration aims to complete registration by August 30. Prabhu said the initiative will help develop leadership, creativity and social responsibility while encouraging youth to contribute actively to community development.
