Job aspirants demand five-year age relaxation in 15,000-teacher recruitment

CH NEWS, YADGIR

Job aspirants have urged the State government to provide a five-year age relaxation in the recruitment of 15,000 teachers and include subject-wise vacancies, including Mathematics, in the recruitment of around 4,000 high school teachers. Members of the Job Aspirants Struggle Committee (JASC) and the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, seeking changes in the recruitment process.

The organisations welcomed the notification issued by the Department of Public Instruction for the recruitment of 15,000 teachers, stating that the recruitment process had begun after several years of demands and protests by job aspirants. They, however, urged the government to implement the age relaxation announced in its own order.

According to the organisations, the State government, through an order issued on January 29, 2026, had granted a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for all direct recruitments under the State government until December 31, 2027. The decision not to extend the same benefit to the 15,000-teacher recruitment notification was unfair to aspirants, they alleged. Several candidates have already cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), while some are exceeding the prescribed age limit by only a few days or months. The government should therefore extend the five-year age relaxation to teacher recruitment in accordance with its order, they demanded.

The organisations also pointed out that the government was undertaking the recruitment of more than 4,000 high school teachers after nearly 11 years. However, they alleged that adequate subject-wise vacancies, including Mathematics, Hindi and Urdu, had not been included in the recruitment process. This would cause hardship to candidates who have completed their B.Ed. and have been waiting for teacher recruitment opportunities for years, they said. The organisations urged the government to add subject-wise teacher posts to the recruitment notification and provide a fair opportunity to all eligible candidates. They appealed to the government to revise the recruitment notification by extending the five-year age relaxation and including the required subject-wise vacancies.
