Mysuru Railways trains visually impaired employees

Mysuru

The Mysuru Division of South Western Railway organised a one-day training programme for visually impaired employees with a special focus on digital accessibility, workplace efficiency and confidence-building.

The programme was aimed at equipping visually impaired employees with the practical skills required to handle their day-to-day official responsibilities effectively by making optimum use of accessible digital tools and office applications.

From HRMS to e-Office: Digital Skills for a Smarter Workplace

The training featured practical demonstrations and hands-on guidance on several digital platforms and applications routinely used in railway offices. Employees were trained in Human Resource Management System (HRMS) and e-Office, including file creation, movement, noting and official correspondence. Sessions were also held on UMID (Unique Medical Identity Card), preparation of official notes and letters, and the effective use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Special emphasis was placed on keyboard shortcuts and accessibility features, enabling employees with visual impairment to navigate office applications more efficiently and independently.

The programme was inaugurated by ADRM/Mysuru Shammas Hameed in the presence of Sr. DPO/Mysuru Shirish S. Kamble, along with other railway officials and staff.

ADRM Interacts with Employees

An important highlight of the programme was the interaction between ADRM Shammas Hameed and the visually impaired employees. The employees shared their grievances, suggestions and work-related concerns, besides highlighting some of the challenges they face while performing their official duties.

He patiently heard their concerns and assured them that the issues raised would be examined and appropriate action would be taken. The training programme underscored the importance of making workplaces more inclusive by ensuring that employees with visual impairment have access to appropriate technology and accessible digital systems.

By improving their familiarity with office applications and accessibility tools, the initiative seeks to enable visually impaired employees to perform their responsibilities with greater independence, confidence and efficiency.

The programme also reflected the Mysuru Division’s emphasis on creating an inclusive working environment where employees, irrespective of physical limitations, are provided opportunities to enhance their professional skills.

The initiative is expected to help visually impaired employees make more effective use of digital technologies in their official duties while strengthening their confidence in handling increasingly technology-driven railway administration.

The programme was not merely about learning software—it was about opening wider digital doors to employees and empowering them to work with greater confidence and independence.
