A new breakfast service for children with speech and hearing disabilities visiting the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) of Mysuru for treatment was launched at the Kuteera premises of the Panchavati Campus in Mysuru on Tuesday.
The initiative has been taken up jointly by the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing and the Akshaya Patra Foundation.

Speaking on the occasion, ISKCON’s Sri Stoka Krishna Swamiji said that the Akshaya Patra Foundation, apart from providing free mid-day meals to children in government schools, was expanding its service activities to economically disadvantaged people and those with special needs. At present, ISKCON is providing mid-day meals to more than 20,000 children studying in government schools. The programme is being implemented jointly by the Government of Karnataka, the Government of India and the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
He said that, following the success of the programme, several new initiatives were being undertaken to extend assistance to poor, visually impaired and other specially-abled persons in society. The Foundation is looking forward to expanding the initiative further in the coming days and remains committed to providing continuous support to children with speech and hearing disabilities and other sections of society in need of assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, AIISH Director Dr. Pushpavathi said the institution had been looking for ways to address the needs of children and their parents who visit the institute for treatment. As many children and their parents arrive at the institute in the morning, they felt the need to provide them with fresh and nutritious breakfast. Dr. Pushpavathi said the initiative had been named ‘Akshaya Patra’ with the objective that every good deed and selfless service should continue without an end.
