The Karnataka government is working to develop Tumakuru as a major industrial manufacturing hub after Bengaluru, Industries Minister M.B. Patil said on Monday.
He said 1,736 acres have been allocated for the Tumakuru node, which is expected to attract investments of around ₹7,000 crore and create more than 88,000 jobs.
Patil made the statement while participating virtually in the third supervisory authority meeting of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Council, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. He said the Tumakuru node of the Bengaluru-Chennai Industrial Corridor has achieved 30% physical progress and 20% financial progress.
The minister said 300 acres have been allotted for a Japan Industrial Township and 200 acres for micro, small and medium enterprises. Jindal Aluminium, a major investor, has received 151 acres, while another 41 acres have been reserved for institutional purposes. Land acquisition is progressing smoothly, and the project is expected to be completed by 2027.
The node will focus on food and beverages, textiles and apparel, electronics, chemicals, general engineering and logistics. Patil also assured that Karnataka would provide full cooperation for projects approved under the PM MITRA Industrial Park in Kalaburagi and the Bhavya scheme.
The central initiative covers 11 industrial corridors and 20 smart cities across 13 states. Four smart city projects have been completed, while 16 are progressing. The overall ₹50,759 crore programme has an investment potential of ₹5.35 lakh crore and aims to create 14 lakh jobs. The Bhavya initiative is expected to develop 100 industrial parks across 49,120 acres. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Karnataka Industries Department Principal Secretary Selvakumar and KIADB CEO Govinda Reddy.
