Retired Teacher found murdered in Indi, daughter among three named in complaint

CH NEWS, VIJAYAPURA

A 62-year-old retired teacher was found brutally murdered and his body dumped by the roadside near Pujari Vasti on the Chavadihal Road in Indi taluk. The incident has raised questions over a possible family dispute and the victim’s alleged opposition to his daughter’s relationship. The deceased has been identified as Siddappa Basappa Anjutagi, who had retired from teaching service about two years ago. According to the complaint, Siddappa’s daughter Priyanka’s husband, Suresh Masali, died during the COVID-19 pandemic. The complaint alleges that Priyanka subsequently developed a relationship with Bhimaji alias Santosh Ganapati Sindhe, a resident of Vijayapura.

Siddappa was reportedly opposed to the alleged relationship and had advised his daughter against it. This reportedly resulted in repeated disagreements between the father and daughter. The complaint also mentions another source of family friction involving Siddappa’s retirement benefits. It is alleged that disputes had arisen over his financial affairs, with family members reportedly questioning why he was allegedly providing money to others instead of supporting them.

The circumstances surrounding Siddappa’s death came to light on August 16 when an acquaintance reportedly used his mobile phone to contact his daughter Nikhita and informed her that Siddappa’s body was lying near agricultural land close to Pujari Vasti on the Indi–Chavadihal Road. Family members rushed to the location and found Siddappa dead. He had sustained serious injuries to his head and chest, according to the complaint. A bedsheet and pillow cover were also reportedly found near the body, raising suspicion that the body may have been moved from another location before being dumped by the roadside.

The complaint states that the murder is suspected to have occurred between 11 p.m. on August 15 and 6 a.m. on August 16. It has been alleged that Priyanka, Bhimaji alias Santosh and another person conspired to kill Siddappa. The complaint further alleges that the body was wrapped in a bedsheet, transported in a vehicle and dumped by the roadside in an alleged attempt to conceal the crime and destroy evidence.Police have registered a case based on the complaint and launched an investigation. The role of the three persons named in the complaint, as well as the possible involvement of others, is being examined.
