Opposition alleges police failure in Basavaraj Reddy’s case

KANAKAGIRI

Former MLA Basavaraj Dadesuguru has alleged that the police department failed to protect the public and has not registered an FIR in a case linked to the death of Basavaraj Reddy.

Reddy reportedly died by suicide after an assault connected to a land encroachment dispute in the town, according to his statement to reporters.

Dadesuguru claimed that Minister Shivaraj Thangadgi had been pressuring police for three days not to register the case. He said officials were hesitant because of the alleged political pressure, and accused the police of failing to provide proper security to people in Kanakagiri. He demanded immediate action under the law and justice for Reddy’s family without delay.

Dadesuguru said the Bilekudari family had met Minister Thangadgi and alleged that this meeting was being used to push the matter toward closure. He urged authorities to examine the complaint and take action according to legal procedures. He said the issue would be raised during the Assembly session and brought to the attention of BJP leaders.

BJP state executive member Basavaraj Cavatar said Reddy’s death showed police negligence. He said he would inform senior party leaders and asked BJP legislators to discuss the matter in the House. The allegations have increased demands for an investigation, accountability and justice for Reddy’s family. Authorities are expected to respond.
