BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra on Sunday urged the Karnataka government to take the alleged cow-smuggling incident in Shikaripura seriously and ensure strict action against those responsible.
Vijayendra visited Shikaripura hospital and met Bajrang Dal activists who were injured while allegedly pursuing a vehicle transporting cows. He enquired about their health and assured them of support.
Speaking to reporters later, he said the incident reflected concerns over law and order and urged the government to act immediately. He said he had already spoken to the district Superintendent of Police and local police officers regarding the incident.
“The vehicles have been seized, but that is not enough,” Vijayendra said, demanding stringent action against those involved. He said the accused should not be allowed to evade punishment and urged the authorities to take steps to prevent them from securing bail easily.
He also appealed to the government to ensure that such incidents did not recur, warning that repeated incidents could adversely affect law and order in the State.
According to Vijayendra, the incident occurred late on Saturday night when some persons allegedly attempted to transport cows in a pickup vehicle from the house of Chandan in the area. Bajrang Dal activists Chandan, Kiran and Abhilash reportedly woke up and chased the vehicle after noticing the alleged movement of the cattle.
The activists claimed that the vehicle was being used to transport cows illegally and that the occupants did not stop at a police check-post. During the pursuit, the activists were allegedly attacked, leaving some of them injured.
Vijayendra condemned the alleged attack as a serious incident and criticised the government over what he described as a deterioration in law and order. He urged the Chief Minister and Home Minister to intervene and take firm action.
