Protecting and respecting the precious freedom of our nation is the primary duty of every single person living in the country. This powerful message was delivered by the newly appointed Speaker of the Legislative Council, Salim Ahmed, during the recent Independence Day celebrations held in the city.
Ahmed addressed a gathering after hoisting the national flag at the MLAs’ House. He reminded the audience that the liberty we enjoy today is the direct result of countless hardships and brave sacrifices made by legendary freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi, who fought tirelessly to free India from colonial rule. During his inspiring speech, he urged all citizens to join hands and actively work together to strengthen the core values of democracy, national unity, integrity, and social harmony across the land.
Furthermore, the speaker emphasized that every individual must understand their constitutional rights while also fulfilling their personal duties toward national progress. He noted that true development happens only when every citizen contributes their share to building a better society.
Echoing these thoughts, Assembly Speaker G.S. Patil also spoke at the event. He paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs and freedom fighters of the past, stressing that it is our collective responsibility to turn their vision of a prosperous India into reality. Patil highlighted the importance of guarding constitutional values and democratic principles to ensure peace and harmony continue to flourish.
The flag-hoisting ceremony was attended by Legislative Council Secretary Mahalaxmi, along with various senior officials and staff members of the Legislative Council, who gathered to honor the historic occasion and reflect on their duties as responsible citizens of the nation.
