Tehsildar Ranjit K.R. said remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and honouring their contribution is the responsibility of every citizen.
He was speaking after hoisting the national flag at the 80th Independence Day celebration organised by the taluk administration at the Kempegowda Fort grounds in Magadi on Saturday.
Ranjit said thousands of people made sacrifices for India’s freedom, and their courage must never be forgotten. Karnataka also has a long history of struggle and contribution. He said citizens must continue working for social justice, economic progress and basic facilities while helping India strengthen its position globally. He called for unity and responsible citizenship.
Bamul director H.N. Ashok said India has a rich heritage and culture that must be passed to future generations, especially by the youth. Independence must go together with national unity and sovereignty, he said. He urged young people to follow the ideals of Subhash Chandra Bose, develop discipline and commitment, and become responsible citizens. He also praised ongoing development and fort restoration works.
Cultural programmes by schoolchildren were held during the celebration. Meals and laddus were distributed to thousands of children. Several public representatives, officials and local leaders attended the event, including TAPCMS president Honnapura Shivprasad, former Bamul president Narasimhamurthy, Magadi Planning Authority chairman Prakash, EO Jayapal and BEO Rajegowda. The programme concluded with a call to uphold the nation’s values.
