East civic body orders inspections of PGs, eateries

BENGALURU

Bengaluru East City Corporation has ordered a seven-day inspection drive covering PGs, hostels, hotels and eateries to ensure compliance with safety, hygiene and licensing norms.

Commissioner D.S. Ramesh directed officials to inspect PG accommodations around Gear School Road, New Horizon College and Thubarahalli, following public complaints and directions of the Karnataka High Court.

A joint team comprising town planning officials, executive engineers, health officers and solid waste management officials will inspect each PG individually. Officials will verify building approvals, unauthorised construction, additional floors, setbacks, land-use violations, trade licences and other permissions.

The inspections will also focus on structural safety, fire-safety systems, drinking water, toilets, drainage, wastewater disposal and solid waste segregation. Encroachments on roads, footpaths, drains and other public property will also be checked.

Officials have been instructed to document violations and obtain geo-tagged photographs wherever necessary. Serious violations will invite immediate action, while a property-wise report detailing violations and action taken or proposed must be submitted within seven days.
