Tension prevailed at Ambedkar Circle in Raichur city as members of the Alliance of Dalit and Progressive Organisations, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KARAVE), and the Raichur District Forums staged a protest opposing Minister Ajay Singh.
The protesters launched a “Go Back Ajay Singh” campaign and attempted to block the Minister’s programme. Police intervened immediately and detained the protesters to prevent any disruption. The protesters expressed strong displeasure with the State Government for allegedly denying Raichur district a ministerial berth. They accused Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of doing injustice to the district by failing to provide it representation in the Cabinet. The protesters demanded that the government immediately provide a ministerial berth to a representative from Raichur district, warning that they would intensify their agitation if their demand was not addressed.
