The Food Department has sealed the canteen at Vikasa Soudha after officials reportedly found serious hygiene violations, including cockroaches in food plates.
The canteen, frequented by ministers and IAS officers, came under inspection as the department intensified its crackdown on unhygienic food establishments across Bengaluru. During the inspection, officials reportedly found several cockroaches in plates used for serving food, while the premises were found to be poorly maintained.
Following the findings, officials sealed the canteen and initiated action over the alleged violations. The development has raised concerns over food safety at a government facility used by senior officials and elected representatives.
The Food Department has in recent days stepped up surprise inspections of hotels, restaurants and other food establishments across the city. Officials have been checking food products, ingredients and overall hygiene conditions.
During some of the inspections, expired food items and substances suspected to contain harmful chemicals were reportedly detected. Authorities have also found establishments failing to follow prescribed cleanliness and food safety norms.
