The construction of a new Cyber Crime Police Station building will help provide better services to people and address the existing infrastructure issues, said MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur.
He was speaking after performing the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the new Cyber Police Station building, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.30 crore beside the Rural Police Station in city. The MLA said, the Cyber Police Station is currently functioning under the State Home Department at the district headquarters. With the increasing use of digital technology and online financial transactions, cyber-related crimes have also increased. He appreciated the district police for taking proactive measures to help people who have fallen victim to online fraud. He said that after Pruthvik Shankar took charge as Superintendent of Police, CCTV cameras had been installed at the district headquarters, taluk centres and police station limits. Steps had also been taken to deploy adequate police personnel in border areas of the district to prevent crime.
Tunnur directed the contractor to complete the construction within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said the government had already released Rs 7 crore for various police infrastructure projects in the district. A dog kennel had been inaugurated at the SP’s office, while construction of the Cyber Crime Police Station, an outpost at Bendebembli in Wadagera taluk and residential quarters at Kembhavi Police Station in Surpur taluk had also been taken up. He said that after joining the district, he first assessed the major problems faced by the police department and worked towards resolving them in phases. Several measures had been taken to bring greater efficiency to the department and curb illegal activities, he added.
Assistant Executive Engineer of the Karnataka Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Lingraj, briefed the gathering about the construction project.
DySP Bharat, Congress leaders Bapugowda Patil Hunsagi, Rajasekhar Bali, Tayappa Yadav, Babugowda Machanur and police officials including Sridevi Biradar, Pandit Sagar, Bhimashankar, Kashinath Reddy, Sharanagowda, Manjannagowda Patil, Srikanth and Pomanna Rathod were present.
