The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Tuesday inspected the kitchens of Indira Canteens in Bengaluru as part of its ongoing special food safety drive. Officials inspected Indira Gandhi Canteen kitchens at Gottigere in Bengaluru South and Lingarajapuram in Bengaluru North. The department has been conducting inspections across Bengaluru Urban district and Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA) to check compliance with food safety regulations. The inspections follow checks at 60 three-star and five-star hotels, where officials collected 77 food samples for laboratory analysis. Indira Canteens, a flagship subsidised food scheme launched during former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s earlier tenure, serve affordable meals to the public. The Karnataka BJP criticised the government over food quality, alleging that adequate hygiene and quality standards were not being maintained.
