Berwal took everyone back to the year 2015 during the World Military Games. He talked about a tough match he had against a boxer from Pakistan. Before the fight even began, army officials gave him clear instructions that he simply could not lose to a Pakistani opponent. Berwal fought hard and won the bout, but the clash was so fierce that both athletes ended up getting cuts and needed stitches at a local hospital.
While they were getting medical treatment together, the Pakistani opponent began to notice a strange coincidence. The rival realized that the name Narendra seemed to be following him everywhere.
Sharing the exact words with the Prime Minister, Berwal laughed and said, “The Pakistani boxer looked at me and said, ‘Your name is Narender, your coach’s name is Narender, and your Prime Minister’s name is Narendra. I have started to hate the name Narendra.’”
Hearing this cute and unexpected tale, Prime Minister Modi burst into hearty laughter along with all the other athletes in the room.
This light moment came after a historic sporting campaign where Indian boxers showed amazing skill. The boxing team brought home a grand total of ten medals, which included seven gold and three silver. This incredible performance set a brand new national record for the country at the international games. Overall, the Indian delegation finished their run with thirty-nine medals, securing the fourth spot in the final standings. As the latest games wrapped up, the ceremonial baton was officially passed to India. The historic centenary edition of the multi-sport event will now take place in Ahmedabad in the year 2030, making the nation proud once more.
