With the aim of keeping the Nagabanas free from plastic waste during the Nagara Panchami festival, which is celebrated with devotion and devotion on the coast, a special awareness campaign called ‘Plastic-Free Nagara Panchami’ has been undertaken by the ‘Shri Amba Maheshwari Seva Trust (R.)’ of Jeppu.
This green campaign is being carried out through social media and awareness programs under the trust’s ‘Awake Kudla’. Nagar Panchami is being celebrated across the country on August 17. On Nagara Panchami, it is traditional for devotees to go to their ancestral Nagabans and offer water, milk, and flowers to the Naga God and worship them. However, on this occasion, milk is brought in plastic bottles and puja items in single-use plastic bags, resulting in a huge amount of plastic waste accumulating in the sacred Nagabans.
As a solution, organizers are requesting that steel containers with lids be used instead of plastic bottles to bring milk. Reusable cloth bags should be used instead of plastic bags to bring supplies.
To implement this campaign not only for publicity but also directly, the workers of the trust are going to more than 60 Nagabanas in the Mangaladevi, Bolara and Hoigebazar wards. They are meeting the family leaders of the Nagabanas there and symbolically distributing pamphlets and cloth bags requesting their families and devotees not to use plastic.
It remains to be seen how the public and coastal devotees will respond to this act of protecting nature along with religious rituals.
