South Western Railway (SWR) is undertaking major capacity expansion at KSR Bengaluru and Yeshwantpur railway stations to ease train detention and improve passenger movement. Platform 7 has been extended from 449 metres to 600 metres, enabling it to handle longer trains. A dedicated goods line has also been created, freeing platform space for passenger services. SWR plans to add two island platforms towards Yeshwantpur in the next phase, along with a maintenance facility for Vande Bharat trains. Yeshwantpur station is also proposed to get four additional island platforms for mainline and MEMU services. The station is already undergoing a Rs 367.86-crore redevelopment. A separate Rs 1,500-crore redevelopment is planned for KSR Bengaluru, including a new station building, air concourse, fourth entrance and multi-level parking.
