IIMA launches general counsel leadership academy

NEW DELHI

The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad has teamed up with top legal expert Cyril Shroff to launch a brand-new training center. Named the Cyril Shroff-IIMA GC Leadership Academy, this special project aims to train corporate lawyers, also known as general counsels, for the modern business world.

Today, lawyers working inside companies do much more than just give legal advice. They help run businesses, manage risks, handle new technologies, and plan company strategies. To help them succeed in these bigger roles, the new academy will teach important skills like business leadership, money management, and tech readiness.

The project was made possible through a personal donation by Cyril Shroff and his family. Speaking about the launch, Shroff explained that the legal profession needs strong institutions to guide future leaders. He noted that the role of corporate lawyers has grown far beyond traditional law, requiring deep purpose, good judgment, and strong leadership abilities.

Professor Bharat Bhasker, the Director of IIM Ahmedabad, shared his excitement about the partnership. He stated that the academy is a groundbreaking step to help legal experts handle the complex demands of today’s fast-changing market. By mixing legal knowledge with business training, the program will prepare lawyers to lead at the crossroads of law, business, and good governance.

Experts believe this unique collaboration will greatly benefit the in-house legal community. As companies face tougher rules and bigger challenges around the world, this academy will ensure that corporate lawyers are fully ready to guide their teams, protect their companies, and drive future business growth with confidence and skill.
