Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday said nobody could hide the truth regarding the proposed Bidadi Township project and challenged the Opposition to raise the issue in the Assembly.
Speaking to reporters at Bharat Jodo Bhavan, the KPCC office, Shivakumar was asked about the proposed padayatra by the BJP and JD(S) against the township project.
He said protests and padayatras were a democratic right and that political parties were free to exercise that right. “They can do whatever they want. Let them come to the Assembly and speak. They can file complaints wherever they want,” he said.
Shivakumar maintained that the government was not forcing anyone in connection with the project and would respond to questions and allegations at the appropriate time.
“We are not forcing anyone. We will give the appropriate answer at the appropriate time,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come ahead of the monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, where the Bidadi Township proposal is expected to be among the issues raised by Opposition parties.
The BJP and JD(S) have opposed the project and announced plans to undertake a padayatra to highlight their concerns. The Opposition is expected to seek clarifications from the government on various aspects of the proposed township during the session.
Shivakumar reiterated that all concerns could be raised through democratic and constitutional forums and that the government was prepared to respond.
