Minister Lakshman Savadi said that immediate action will be taken to provide relief after reviewing crop damage, road issues, drinking water problems and HESCOM-related concerns caused by floods and drought in Uttara Kannada district. He spoke during a review meeting held at the District Collectorate on Thursday.
The minister said a two-day assessment will be conducted by collecting details from MLAs and officials of all constituencies. Based on the reports, necessary relief measures will be planned. He added that experts will be consulted to control leaf spot and rot diseases affecting areca nut crops.
Savadi said farmers have suffered heavy losses due to weather-related problems and relief will be provided in three phases, including short-term, medium-term and long-term measures. A committee including all district MLAs will inspect affected areas, prepare a report and submit it to the government through the Deputy Commissioner for further action.
Karwar MLA Satish Sail highlighted damage to rural roads and demanded urgent repairs, especially on the Kaiga road. Sirsi-Siddapur MLA Bhimanna T. Nayak raised concerns about damaged roads, areca nut diseases and compensation for house damage victims. MLC Ganapathi Ulvekar sought permanent solutions for sea erosion in Harwada.
The meeting was attended by Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar, Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty, District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority Chairman Satish Nayak, Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Dilish Shashi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajid Mulla and officials from various departments. The minister assured that priority would be given to protecting farmers and restoring essential services across the district.

Permanent solution sought to stop sea erosion
