In the wake of heavy rains across Dakshina Kannada district, Deputy Commissioner HV Darshan issued an order declaring a holiday for schools and colleges in the district on Monday, as a precautionary measure.
There are some differences in the declaration of holidays for Anganwadi, schools and colleges on a taluk-wise (sub-division-wise) basis.
Mangalore Sub-Division : Taluks covered : Mangalore, Bantwal, Moodbidri, Mulki and Ullal. Holiday details : Holiday has been declared for all Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools (up to class 10) in these taluks. (This also applies to all residential schools). 2. Puttur Sub-Division : Taluks covered : Puttur, Belthangady, Sullia and Kadaba.
Holiday has been declared for all Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary, high schools, pre-university colleges (up to class PUC / 12) and all ITI and diploma colleges in these taluks. (This also applies to all residential schools and colleges).
District administration issues precautionary measures and guidelines to the public. Parents should be careful not to let their children go to low-lying areas, lakes, river banks and seashores. Fishermen have been given a clear instruction not to go into the sea. Tourists and the public should not go to the river banks and seashores.
District and taluk level officials should be at the center and handle disaster management tasks.
The public can contact the toll-free number 1077 or 0824-2442590 for any emergency issues related to natural disasters, the District Commissioner said in a statement.

The heavy rains have intensified over the past two days, with an average rainfall of 100.6 mm recorded across the district in the last 24 hours. According to a report released by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the district has received a total rainfall of 2485.0 mm since January 1 this monsoon season.
