Big cricket news is coming from the south. Talented star Tilak Varma has been named as the captain of the fifteen-member South Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The tournament will take place at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, starting from August twenty-third and running until September tenth. Fans are thrilled to see him take charge of a very strong team.
Alongside him, Andhra batsman Ricky Bhui will take on the role of vice-captain. The team will benefit greatly from the experience of MN Vikram Varma, a skilled Level 2 coach from Andhra, who has been selected as the head coach. Tilak recently showed brilliant form while helping the Indian T20 team secure a clean sweep against Zimbabwe.
The selection meeting was successfully led by Andhra Cricket Association secretary Sana Satish Babu, with former Ranji player RV Chandramouli Prasad heading the panel. Representatives from all seven southern states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Hyderabad, joined the meeting to pick a balanced and powerful group of players.
The squad features a fantastic mix of experienced campaigners and exciting young talents. Veteran batsman Karun Nair adds solid strength to the batting lineup. Joining him are rising stars like Karnataka player R Smaran, who topped the Ranji run charts recently with nine hundred fifty runs, and Hyderabad talent K Himateja.
More firepower comes from Shaik Rasheed, fresh from India A’s tour success, alongside Goa batsman Abhinav Tejrana. Reliable wicketkeeper N Jagadeesan will manage duties behind the stumps after gaining valuable experience on the Sri Lanka tour.
Because they reached the finals last season, South Zone gets a direct entry into the semi-finals. They will start their campaign on August thirtieth. The spin attack features Tanay Thyagarajan and Shreyas Gopal. Meanwhile, pacers Vidvath Kaverappa, M D Nideesh, K Sai Teja, and T Vijay will handle the fast bowling department.
The complete fifteen-player squad includes Tilak Varma, Ricky Bhui, Abhinav Tejrana, Shaik Rasheed, K M Himateja, R Smaran, N Jagadeesan, Karun Nair, Tanay Thyagarajan, Shreyas Gopal, K Sai Teja, T Vijay, Vidvath Kaverappa, H Aman Khan, and M D Nideesh.
