Karnataka Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Sunday inspected the progress of the ambitious project to fill 39 tanks in Raibag taluk using water from the Krishna River near Bavanasoundatti village.
The project is aimed at improving water availability in the region, strengthening irrigation facilities, recharging groundwater and providing long-term support to farmers and rural communities. The initiative is expected to help address water scarcity in several villages and contribute to agricultural development in the taluk.
During the inspection, Jarkiholi visited the tanks at Hubbarwadi, Mekhali, Devanakatti and Mavinahonda villages and reviewed the progress of water-filling works. Officials briefed the minister about the implementation of the project and the current status of water supply to the identified tanks.
The minister examined the facilities and sought details regarding the movement and distribution of Krishna River water. He emphasised the importance of completing the project effectively so that farmers and residents receive the intended benefits.
Later, Jarkiholi visited the Ghataprabha Left Bank Canal at Mugalkhoda and interacted with farmers. During the meeting, farmers raised concerns related to irrigation water availability, canal operations and agricultural requirements.
The minister listened to their grievances and assured them that the issues would be examined and that suitable measures would be taken to address their concerns. He said the government remained committed to protecting farmers’ interests and improving irrigation infrastructure.
Farmers welcomed Jarkiholi during the visit and presented him with vegetables grown in their fields. They also honoured the minister with a garland, expressing appreciation for the efforts being made to improve water facilities in the region.
Jarkiholi said that the government’s focus would remain on farmers’ prosperity, water security and sustainable development.
The filling of 39 tanks is expected to enhance groundwater recharge, increase water availability for agricultural activities and support communities dependent on farming. The project is also expected to provide relief during periods of low rainfall and help ensure more reliable water resources across Raibag taluk.
