Star striker Robert Lewandowski put on a show for his new fans at Soldier Field. The forward scored a brilliant brace to lead the Chicago Fire to a thrilling two to one victory over Charlotte FC. It was a dream home debut for the Polish star, marking his very first goals in Major League Soccer.
Charlotte started strong when Pep Biel scored the opening goal in the eighteenth minute. However, the Fire responded instantly just ninety-three seconds later. Winger Jonathan Bamba delivered a pass to Philip Zinckernagel, who headed it down to Lewandowski. Taking two calm touches, the striker fired a powerful shot from outside the box to score his historic first MLS goal.
Both teams fought hard for the lead in the second half. In the sixty-eight minute, Lewandowski delivered again after a brilliant build-up involving over twenty-and-five passes. Andrew Gutman crossed the ball to Robin Lod, who found Lewandowski inside the penalty area. Running to his right, the clever forward chipped the ball past the goalkeeper into the side netting.
Head coach Gregg Berhalter praised the player’s world-class quality after the final whistle. He noted that Lewandowski reads the game intelligently and remains an absolute threat inside the box. Since joining the club two weeks ago, the striker has made an immediate impact, becoming only the fourth player in team history to score multiple goals during a home debut.
