Adding the elite left-handed starting pitcher gives a major boost to Los Angeles as they chase history. Skubal, 29, has developed into one of the most dominant pitchers in the majors. He made history by winning back-to-back Cy Young awards in 2024 and 2025, guiding Detroit to consecutive postseason berths. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and the Tigers sitting outside the immediate playoff picture, the front office chose to capitalize on his immense value. Over seven seasons in Detroit, Skubal holds a 61-42 record with a solid 3.04 career ERA. Even after missing time earlier this year following left elbow surgery, he has bounced back strongly, posting a 2.79 ERA with 114 strikeouts across 16 starts.
This acquisition helps ease recent rotation concerns for the Dodgers, especially with two-way star Shohei Ohtani currently sidelined from pitching due to arm and knee discomfort.
