Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has shocked many by publicly defending a harsh police crackdown against peaceful citizens in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In a viral video, Asif stated that he views the local demonstrators the same way he views India, calling them enemies.
This statement follows severe violence in towns like Mirpur and Rawalakot. Reports confirm that over 40 people lost their lives and hundreds more suffered critical injuries during a massive long march. The protest was organized by the Joint Awami Action Committee to speak out against ongoing human rights violations and economic struggles in the region.
Heartbreaking videos shared on social media show chaotic scenes of security forces opening fire on crowds. Streets were left covered with fallen motorbikes and tragic casualties as locals ran desperately for safety. Witnesses stated that police forces specifically targeted young members of the action committee, leading to extreme panic and grief among families picking up their loved ones.
The clashes broke out after peaceful negotiations between local leaders and authorities completely collapsed. Instead of addressing the grievances of the public, security forces responded with heavy shelling and live ammunition.
