A woman bakery owner in Uttara Kannada district lost ₹5.14 lakh in an online rating scam, while police arrested a man for allegedly consuming ganja in a separate incident. Siddapur resident S.S. Arpita received a WhatsApp message offering ₹50 for each five-star restaurant rating. After earning small initial payments, she was persuaded to invest larger sums, following which fraudsters siphoned ₹5,14,249 from her bank account. She later lodged a complaint with Siddapur Police. In Kumta, police arrested a 30-year-old man after medical tests reportedly confirmed ganja consumption, and booked him under the NDPS Act.
