Former Karnataka Minister and senior BJP leader B. Sriramulu on Monday urged the state government to immediately announce drought relief measures, alleging that farmers across Karnataka are facing severe distress while the government has failed to respond adequately. Addressing a press conference at his residence on Siruguppa Road in Ballari, he also demanded accountability over the alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment irregularities.
He criticised the government for focusing on drone-based crop loss surveys instead of providing immediate financial relief to affected farmers.
Stating that farmers should not be forced to run from one government office to another seeking compensation, he urged the administration to prioritise relief and expedite assistance.
Referring to examination reforms, Sriramulu praised the Union Government’s measures to curb malpractice in the NEET examination system. He said strict action had been initiated against those involved in question paper leaks and welcomed the formation of a task force under Nandan Nilekani to strengthen examination transparency. He also called for fast-track courts to ensure speedy disposal of such cases.
On the alleged KPSC recruitment scam, Sriramulu questioned who should be held responsible and demanded that the state government provide a clear explanation. He also urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had raised concerns over the NEET paper leak, to visit Karnataka and speak out against the alleged KPSC irregularities as well.
The BJP leader criticised the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, alleging that the government was giving more importance to political activities than addressing farmers’ issues. He claimed that while guarantee schemes had benefited some sections, ordinary people and farmers continued to struggle.
Commenting on recent political developments, Sriramulu questioned former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks that politics had become polluted, asking why such concerns were not raised while he was in power. He further alleged that development works in Karnataka had slowed considerably, leading to growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government.
Reiterating his support for the Union Government, Sriramulu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had consistently prioritised the future of students and transparency in the country’s examination system.
