Six leaders recommended for DCC post

Udupi

The process to appoint a new Udupi District Congress Committee (DCC) president has gathered pace, with six aspirants reportedly recommended to the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) for final consideration after consultations with party leaders and office-bearers.

According to party sources, the names were shortlisted following discussions aimed at strengthening the Congress organisation in the district ahead of upcoming electoral challenges. The recommendations were forwarded after reviewing the political experience, organisational capabilities and grassroots support of the contenders.

KPCC observer Himmat Singh held meetings with senior district leaders, elected representatives and party workers to gather their views before preparing the panel of names. The exercise is part of the Congress high command’s organisational restructuring drive, under which district presidents are being appointed across the country.

The observer interacted with leaders from different Assembly segments and sought feedback on the strengths of each aspirant. Emphasis was reportedly placed on selecting a leader capable of strengthening the party at the booth level, improving coordination among various party wings and preparing the organisation for future elections.

Party insiders said the final decision will be taken by the KPCC leadership in consultation with the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The newly appointed district president will be expected to lead organisational activities, expand the party base and coordinate with local legislators, office-bearers and frontal organisations.

The appointment assumes significance as the Congress seeks to consolidate its presence in the coastal region, where it faces stiff political competition. The district president will play a key role in implementing the party’s organisational programmes and ensuring effective coordination between the state leadership and grassroots workers.

An official announcement on the new Udupi DCC president is expected after the KPCC completes its scrutiny of the recommended names and receives approval from the party high command.
