BUDAPEST
Max Verstappen had a very difficult qualifying session at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver spun out on his final lap, leaving him down in sixth place on the starting grid. After the session, the champion did not hide his anger at all. He claimed his race car is getting worse lap by lap during every single run.
Unlike normal tyres that naturally wear down over time, Verstappen said his entire vehicle feels like it is degrading instead. He described the machine as completely hard to drive, noting that the rear part has almost zero grip when trying to turn tight corners. Instead of track conditions improving with more rubber laid down on the asphalt, his vehicle only suffered from heavy sliding and became completely uncontrollable.
The team recently brought back an older rear wing to fix past air issues, but the Dutch driver admits they still need to study the data closely to find the real root cause of this sudden drop in speed and performance.
Looking ahead, Verstappen warns that major fixes are urgently needed. Without big changes, fighting for a top position will be impossible. He hopes his crew can quickly figure out why the handling keeps getting worse so he can save his weekend and push forward to score good points for the championship standings before the long summer break officially begins very soon across this entire coming week now.
