Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday sought the Centre’s assistance for ongoing rescue and relief operations as heavy monsoon rainfall continued to batter several parts of the state, particularly South Gujarat. Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the state government of all necessary support to deal with the situation.
According to the state government, Patel spoke to Shah over the phone and briefed him on the prevailing rain conditions, the impact on affected districts, and the relief measures currently underway. During the conversation, the Union Home Minister assured the Chief Minister that the Central Government would extend every possible assistance required for rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
Earlier in the day, Patel visited the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar to review the flood situation and monitor the coordinated response across rain-hit districts. He held discussions with Minister Naresh Patel and the Collector of Valsad through video conferencing to assess ground conditions and evaluate the progress of rescue operations.
The Chief Minister also interacted with the Collectors of Surat and Navsari, directing them to shift residents from low-lying and waterlogged areas to safer locations wherever necessary, while prioritising public safety. He said additional National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams would be deployed if the situation demanded.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary M.K. Das, attended the review meeting. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall continued to disrupt normal life in South Gujarat. The Dang district administration reported the closure of 47 roads due to waterlogging, though the Waghai–Ahwa road was reopened after clearing obstructions. In Navsari district, the Juj and Keliya dams overflowed following persistent rainfall, prompting authorities to maintain heightened vigilance.
