Widespread monsoon rains accompanied by strong winds swept across Bengaluru, bringing welcome relief alongside temporary urban disruptions. Major city localities including Basavanagudi, Shanthinagar, Town Hall, Majestic, Jayanagar, and Malleshwaram, experienced steady showers throughout the afternoon. The sudden downpours sent commuting pedestrians and two-wheeler riders scrambling for shelter near local bus stands, roadside shops, and commercial establishments.
Following the persistent weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department has declared a ‘Yellow Alert’ for nearly half of Karnataka. Official weather warnings apply to coastal, Malnad, and northern districts, including Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgiri, Vijayapura, Raichur, Bagalkot, Koppal, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu.
According to official weather data, Kergalu village in Udupi’s Byndoor taluk recorded the state’s highest rainfall yesterday at an impressive 160.5 mm. Agumbe in Shivamogga followed closely with 155 mm, while Mundaje in Dakshina Kannada registered 98.5 mm. Other regions experiencing heavy showers included Peraje in Kodagu and Malagatti in Yadgiri (64.5 mm each), alongside significant rainfall recorded across Raichur, Uttara Kannada, and Belagavi districts.
With active monsoon systems gaining momentum, local authorities advise residents across alert-designated districts to stay cautious during peak travel hours. Municipal disaster management teams remain on stand-by to manage potential waterlogging, fallen trees, and traffic congestion as widespread rains continue.
