Shivamogga Police Launch First Mobile Forensic Lab in Karnataka, Equipped with Advanced Technology to Improve Crime Investigation, Evidence Collection and Conviction Rates
Shivamogga
Shivamogga district police have received a state-of-the-art mobile forensic laboratory vehicle for the first time under central government funding, aimed at improving crime investigation and strengthening evidence collection.
District Superintendent of Police Nikhil B. inaugurated the vehicle at the DAR premises and said the facility is equipped with advanced tools required for scientific investigation of criminal cases. The vehicle will help collect crucial evidence from crime scenes, assist police in identifying offenders and increase the possibility of securing convictions.
He said a trained team of forensic experts will be stationed with the mobile laboratory and will immediately reach crime locations whenever local police provide information. Their scientific assistance will help preserve evidence and support effective investigations.
The SP stressed the importance of protecting crime scenes from evidence destruction. He instructed police personnel to secure the area, prevent unauthorised entry, cordon off the location and immediately call the forensic team for examination.
He said the central and state governments are providing such advanced forensic vehicles to police departments across the country, and Shivamogga is the first district in Karnataka to receive the facility.
Nikhil B. noted that the conviction rate in Karnataka remains low, with courts highlighting that evidence destruction in serious crimes is a major reason. He urged officers to use the forensic facility effectively and work towards ensuring that criminals receive appropriate punishment.
Before the inauguration, forensic experts conducted a detailed demonstration explaining the functions and capabilities of the mobile laboratory at the DAR auditorium.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kayyappa A.G., Deputy Superintendents of Police Sheelavanta Hosmani and Sanjeev Kumar, city police inspectors, officers, forensic team members and police personnel were present during the programme.
