A BJP delegation urged the Karnataka Governor to halt the state’s Permanent Residence Certificate rollout, alleging constitutional violations and national security threats.
BENGALURU
The Bharatiya Janata Party has officially launched a political war against the state government’s decision to issue Permanent Residence Certificates. A high-level party delegation met the Governor to submit a formal complaint, demanding an immediate halt to the controversial program.
The political delegation included prominent leaders such as Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok, Chalavadi Narayana Swamy, C.T. Ravi, and Dr. K. Sudhakar. In their memorandum, the leaders argued that a state government lacks the constitutional authority to issue such residency certificates. They asserted that granting these documents poses a massive threat to internal national security.
Speaking to reporters after the high-profile meeting, R. Ashok alleged a deep political conspiracy behind the policy. He claimed the ruling Congress party is illegally distributing certificates to secure a loyal voter base for upcoming local and assembly elections. Ashok expressed grave concern over illegal immigration, claiming that nearly thirty lakh undocumented Bangladeshis reside within the state. He warned that the new policy would mistakenly turn these illegal immigrants into permanent residents, completely altering local demographics. The opposition leader emphasized that only the Central Government holds the legal power to decide citizenship and permanent residency matters.
In addition to the certificate row, the delegation brought two other major corruption scandals to the Governor’s attention. They exposed an illegal scam involving fake bank accounts opened under the names of poor citizens in Chikkamagaluru district. Furthermore, they reported the unlawful sale of valuable government school land in Aggalkote village, located in Malur taluk.
The BJP leaders demanded a comprehensive, high-level investigation into both corruption cases to punish the guilty officials. According to the delegation, the Governor listened to their security and financial concerns patiently. He reportedly assured the opposition leaders that he would officially warn the state government regarding these serious violations.
