Chikkodi
Nine members of a family fell ill after consuming wild mushrooms collected from a farm in Umarani village of Belagavi district’s Chikkodi taluk. According to officials, the mushrooms had been exposed to pesticides sprayed on the field, a fact unknown to the families. Soon after eating the meal, they developed severe vomiting and diarrhoea and were rushed to the Chikkodi Government Hospital. One pregnant woman was referred to Belagavi District Hospital for advanced treatment, while the remaining eight are recovering under medical care. Doctors said all patients are out of danger and are expected to be discharged within the next two days. Authorities have urged the public to avoid consuming wild mushrooms collected from fields without verifying their safety.
